The SC Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum offers lesson plans, activities sheets, and tour interactives for a variety of subjects and grade levels.  You may print and use these while visiting the museum and/or following a visit as classroom activities.
     
     
     

- General Activities -

Cavalry History Hunt Worksheet and Answer List (pdfs) - This is an activity to be completed during a visit to the museum. It emphasizes “horse soldiers” throughout a variety of wars covered in the main gallery exhibits.


Scavenger Hunt, Main Gallery Exhibits (pdf) - This activity takes students on a complete tour of the museum's main gallery exhibits, complete with questions for each section.


History Hunt, Main Gallery Exhibits
and Answer List (pdfs) - Student should be able to locate most of the artifacts and answer the questions on this list during a tour.



- American Revolution -

Revolutionary War Naval Simulation
(pdf) - This lesson will demonstrate to students the ways in which the Continental Navy, American privateers, and merchant sailors contributed to the winning of the American Revolution.



- Civil War -

Civil War Letter Writing Activity (pdf) - This activity is designed for classroom use after your visit to the museum.  The activity requires an envelope pattern – contact Joe Long to obtain this item.  



- The Mexican War -

Mexican War Literary Activity (pdf) - This activity encourages students to think about the literary devices employed in the poem and to find modern themes in historic war materials. 



- World War I -

World War I Exhibit and All Quiet on the Western Front English Lesson Plan (pdf) - This lesson plan is designed to be used in conjunction with the novel by Erich Remarque, after a tour of the SC Confederate Relic Room & Military Museum’s First World War exhibit, “Forgotten Stories: SC Fights the Great War.” The following material can be used to supplement this activity: WWI Images (pdf).


World War I: African-American 371st Infantry Regiment Lesson Plan (pdf) - This lesson plan highlights the achievements of the 371st Regiment. It requires the following supplemental materials: 371st Handout (pdf), Graphic Organizer (pdf), and Venn Diagram (pdf).
